Introduction to EFT Tapping

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), commonly known as tapping, is a powerful and effective therapeutic method used for reducing stress and processing emotions. In the fast-paced world we live in, emotional and physical stress can often feel overwhelming. Whether it's anxiety, past trauma, limiting beliefs, or even physical discomfort, these challenges can affect our overall wellbeing. EFT is designed to help release emotional blocks, reduce stress, and restore balance in the body and mind.

What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

Founded in the 1990s by Gary Craig, EFT is a mind-body healing technique that involves gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on a particular emotional issue. It combines principles of ancient Chinese acupressure with modern psychology, working to rewire the body's response to stress and trauma. By tapping on the key acupressure points, such as the forehead, collarbone, and under the eyes, while acknowledging and verbalising thoughts and feelings, EFT helps to calm the nervous system, giving space to shift negative emotional patterns into more balanced and beneficial patterns that serve your highest good.

The Science Behind EFT: How It Works

EFT works by stimulating the body's meridian points, the same energy channels used in acupuncture, while engaging the brain’s stress response system. The technique is based on the concept that emotional distress is linked to disruptions in the body's energy system. When we experience trauma, stress, or limiting beliefs, our body holds onto that emotional charge, leading to imbalance. The effectiveness of EFT is backed by scientific research, particularly in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and energy medicine.
Studies have shown that tapping can lower cortisol (the primary stress hormone) by as much as 43% (taken from saliva studies), regulate the amygdala (the brain’s fear centre), and enhance the production of feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin, helping individuals feel calmer and more balanced. This process supports the efficient and rapid resolution of emotional distress, making it a valuable tool for reducing feelings of anxiety, processing trauma, pain, and other emotional challenges.
Research has also demonstrated that EFT can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and depression, sometimes in just a few sessions. With its simplicity and accessibility, EFT tapping offers a unique and effective way to regain emotional freedom and well-being.
